The Problem We're Solving: Why RockAgent Exists

By Feyyaz Ustaer

A company ultimately stands on the problem it solves. So what problem are we solving with RockAgent?

Until now, I've mostly explained RockAgent at a micro level:

"Someone who wants to become a musician can come here and handle everything in one place."

That description is accurate, but it doesn't fully explain the bigger picture.

In this article, I want to zoom out and look at the problem from a more macro perspective.

The Creator Economy Precedent

YouTube has roughly 5 billion monthly users.

Out of those, around 4–5 million creators earn meaningful income from the platform.

The key innovation that enabled this shift was simple but powerful: monetization.

YouTube didn't just give people the ability to upload videos. It gave them the ability to earn money from their creations.

Once monetization entered the equation, a new profession emerged: the YouTuber.

People who started as amateurs suddenly had a path to becoming professionals.

Music Has Not Had Its YouTube Moment Yet

Now look at music.

Platforms like Spotify and similar services have around 1 billion listeners worldwide.

Let's apply the same simple math:

YouTube: 5 billion users → ~5 million earning creators

Music streaming: 1 billion users → should theoretically support around 1 million earning creators

But that isn't the reality.

Music is still largely controlled by professionals, labels, and established artists. The tools that allow amateurs to participate economically are still in their early stages.

In other words, the barrier to entry remains high.
